A french looks simple, which is exactly why it is unforgiving: the whole thing rests on the line being the same width across all ten nails and following the curve of the free edge. I do both the classic white and the 'baby french' — a finer line in milk or a barely-there shade, which has been the more popular choice in recent seasons. The base can be sheer, nude or milky pink.

Aftercare
As for gel polish. The white line sits at the very edge, so regrowth shows slightly sooner on a french than on a full colour — plan your next appointment at two to three weeks.
